Professional career
Abdelkrim Tafer received a Bachelor’s degree (2014) and a Master’s degree in Statistics (2017) from the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB), Algeria. He completed a Master’s degree in Big Data (2024) from the University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour (UPPA), France.
Between 2017 and 2022, he worked in Algeria as a Project Planning Engineer at CIMET Spa, a Risk Analyst and Senior Data Analyst at Ooredoo Algeria, where he developed predictive models for financial risk assessment and built analytical dashboards for business intelligence. In 2022, he worked as a Business Intelligence Analyst at Decathlon El Djazair, where he built automated dashboards using AWS services and created performance tracking systems. Between September 2023 and August 2024, he worked as a Research Apprentice in Data Science at the LMAP Laboratory (University of Pau), focusing on Deep Learning methods for NLP.
Since November 2024, he is a PhD student in Computer Science jointly supervised by the University of Pau (LMAP - Laboratory of Mathematics and Their Applications) and the University of Zaragoza (IAAA - Advanced Information Systems Laboratory, I3A). His PhD research focuses on extracting geographic information and reconstructing routes from French travel narratives using Natural Language Processing and Deep Learning techniques. The main objective of his research is to develop an end-to-end system capable of extracting spatial entities from textual narratives, understanding their spatial relationships, and reconstructing the complete movement paths and itineraries described in these texts.
In addition, since January 2025, he is a Teaching Assistant at UPPA, teaching Text Mining and Natural Language Processing with Deep Learning Approaches.
